Fashion Forecast | May 2025
Hey Babes!
Welcome back to the blog! I hope you're doing amazing. Once again, it's the first of the month, which means two things: not only is it time to pay rent, but it’s also time for the Fashion Forecast! ✨
This month’s list feels a little more somber than usual—there’s been so much happening in the world lately, and I think it’s starting to reflect in the way we dress. That said, I still tried to make it thoughtful and enjoyable, and I really believe these predictions capture the mood and the moment. So without further ado, here’s what I’m seeing for May 2025.
1. Rosie the Riveter Inspired Fashion
We're taking it back to the 1940s. When I think of Rosie the Riveter, I think iconic, strong, and industrial fashion. I have a feeling we're going to see a lot of bandanas, raw denim, baggy pants, and maybe canvas as a popular fabric. Think sturdy and durable, yet fashionable if styled correctly.
2. Hardware Over Gemstones
This month is going to focus on metalwork rather than gems. Instead of crystals or flashy gemstones, the focus will be on engraved details, intricacy, sculptural shapes, and the way a piece is constructed. Look out for chunky rings, engraved cuffs, and elaborate chains. It's all about strength and permanence with this trend.
3. Neutrals and Muted Tones
Color is turning down the volume this month. I'm seeing cool greys, soft taupes, dusty olives, and other washed-out and faded hues. We’re leaning into softness and subtlety with palettes that whisper instead of shout. It's perfect for those who want to blend in, move quietly, or just keep things lowkey while still looking polished.
4. Flats and Sneakers
Heels are cute, but they aren't always a good option. And right now, everyone wants style without sacrificing comfort. Expect to see ballet flats, sneakers, and chunky loafers to dominate this month. I can also see combat or work boots like Timberlands making an appearance.
5. Simplicity Makes a Comeback
In contrast to the maximalist trends we saw in the past years, I definitely think basics are coming back into style. Clean silhouettes, minimal styling, and versatile pieces are going to take over. Less is more, basically. Look for uncomplicated cuts and monochrome sets. It's not boring, it's intentional.
6. Business Casual Meets Day-to-Night
Versatility will be key this month. I'm talking elevated basics, tailored trousers with tanks, slip dresses with blazers, and smart and intentional layering. This trend is all about looking polished but relaxed, professional yet not stiff. Think outfits that you can wear to both the office and the bar without needing a full change.
7. Aliencore
Now onto the more lighthearted predictions! It's time to get weird (in a fashionable way of course). I'm sensing an undercurrent of futuristic, otherworldly aesthetics making a return. This includes metallics, asymmetry, tech-inspired accessories, and irregular silhouettes. It’s a little eerie, a little ethereal. Like dressing for a planet we haven’t discovered yet.
8. Iridescent Lilacs and Holographic Lavenders
Piggybacking off Aliencore, there's a special place this month for shimmery purples. Especially lavender and lilac tones that have a holographic or iridescent finish. Think light-catching fabrics, pearlized finishes, and dreamy textures with a soft, glowy vibe. How surreal?
9. The Return of Red Lipstick
A bold red lip is making its way back into everyday wear. It’s a classic, but right now it feels like a quiet rebellion. In a world that feels heavy, a red lip is defiant, confident, and grounded in history. It instantly elevates a bare face or simple outfit and makes you feel powerful. Who doesn't love a powerful woman?
10. Big Blazers
Oversized blazers aren't going anywhere! Wear it over a dress, crop top, or buttoned up as a top by itself. Big Blazers are going to be a staple in May. Talk about the structure, the shoulder. It definitely gives CEO, and you're in control no matter where you go.
That’s a wrap on the May 2025 Fashion Forecast! I know the mood this month might feel a little heavier, but sometimes fashion reflects exactly where we are—and that’s okay. Even in quiet times, we can still express ourselves, find beauty in simplicity, and lean into what feels right.
As always, take what resonates, leave what doesn’t, and wear what makes you feel good. I’ll be back next month with more predictions, but until then—stay stylish, stay grounded, and take care of yourself.
xoxo,
Scarlette
