Scarlette's Unpopular Style Opinions
Hey Babes!
Welcome back to the blog! Today, I woke up with one thing on my mind: I want to stir up commotion. That is why I will be sharing my unasked for, unnecessary unpopular opinions. I wanted to share my thoughts on beauty, fashion, and style in general. Of course, these are just my opinions, and you don't have to agree with me. I wanted to do something fun and entertaining after being away for so long. Please don't take what I say too seriously. Without further ado, let's get into my unpopular opinions.
1. Basics are a good staple for your wardrobe, but it doesn’t have to be your entire wardrobe.
I get it—neutral tees, black jeans, and white sneakers are easy and versatile. But if your entire wardrobe is just basics, isn’t that kind of… boring? Basics should complement your wardrobe, not be your wardrobe. Let’s mix it up with bold prints, fun textures, and statement pieces. Live a little!
2. Bring back bold makeup looks.
Where did all the dramatic eyeliner, colorful eyeshadow, and dark lipstick go? It feels like everyone is obsessed with the “clean girl aesthetic” these days. Don’t get me wrong, I love a natural glow, but can we have some fun again? Bring out the glitter, the neon, the drama—I’m ready for it. It’s time to start being maximal with makeup.
3. Sometimes a color analysis can be wrong.
Look, I know everyone loves hearing they’re a “soft autumn” or a “cool winter,” but let’s be real—these analyses aren’t always accurate. If you feel amazing in a color that’s “wrong” for your season, wear it anyway! Confidence looks better than any “approved” color palette ever could. Back when I used to model, I was told to stay away from silver jewelry because it "doesn't suit my undertones." Now that I’m older, I’ve realized that both gold and silver look good on me, because I said so.
4. I don’t get the point of toner in skincare.
Every skincare routine seems to include a toner, but… why? Unless it’s doing something specific (like exfoliating or hydrating), it just feels like an extra step. Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s good to have in your routine if you need it. What exactly does it do? Clean the excess that cleanser didn’t get? I’d rather save my money for a good serum or moisturizer. Sorry, toner fans.
5. Bottom lashes can change your whole face.
Y’all are sleeping on bottom lashes! A swipe of mascara or even a few tiny falsies can make your eyes look bigger, more defined, and just chef’s kiss. Seriously, someone needs to do a study on this. Trust me, it’s a game-changer.
6. The girls from every fashion group can be toxic.
Whether it’s cottagecore, goth, Y2K, or minimalist, every group has its mean girls. Gatekeeping and judgment are everywhere, which is so silly because fashion is meant to be fun! Let’s stop taking ourselves so seriously and let everyone enjoy what they love.
7. Minimalism is overrated.
While a clean, minimal look is chic, it’s not the only way to have style. I just feel that minimalism, while timeless, is too easy to overdo. I think because it’s hard to mess up, everyone goes straight to a minimal style. Maximalism can be just as elegant and far more fun. Why settle for less when you can have more?
8. Trends aren’t the enemy.
Some people treat trends like they’re evil, but honestly, trends can be a great way to experiment and find new things you love. It’s all about how you make them your own.
9. DIY skincare is risky business.
Mixing kitchen ingredients like lemon juice or baking soda might sound natural, but it can wreak havoc on your skin. Sometimes, it’s best to leave skincare to the professionals.
10. Expensive doesn’t always mean better.
Luxury products might feel fancy, but some of the best skincare and makeup gems are sitting on drugstore shelves. Don’t sleep on affordable finds!
11. Lip liners are underrated.
Even if you’re rocking a natural look, a good lip liner can elevate your game. It defines your lips and helps keep your lipstick (or gloss) in place. Win-win!
12. Highlighter is overused.
Not every look needs a blinding highlighter. Sometimes, a soft, natural glow is way more flattering. Less is more, y’all.
So, there you have it—my unpopular opinions. Do you agree with any of these, or am I totally off-base? Let me know your thoughts (nicely, please)! Fashion and beauty should be fun and personal, so let’s celebrate our differences. 🌈
